“Did you see that!?” I voice and glance over my shoulder, but no one is there. I paddle for a wave, jet down the line, fill with joy, smile, and leap over the backside of the blue wall. I return to my position- floating in paradise. Warm water. Beautiful waves. Palm trees. Sandy beaches. Mountains as the backdrop. But I’m frustrated with myself, I can’t seem to stay present, stay out of my mind. With all this pure natural beauty- why do I feel off? Something is missing.
“Did you see that!?” runs across the horizon. It’s a flickering sense of wanting to rejoice with others about what this world has to offer. It occurs to me- the “something” that is missing is other beings, other beams of light, other smiling faces, just simply others. Friends, family, strangers, and loved ones alike.
It hits me harder than the crashing waves- the joy is in the sharing. Experiencing the adventure with another truly amplifies all that occurs. And when it is amplified the bodacious ripple effect reaches greater distances, hits more people, and continues its influence.
Connection is vital, it’s crucial to the continuation of human existence. Although at certain periods, alone time is rejuvenating, it seems the real joy is in the sharing.
How blessed we are to be human, to miss, be missed, and to unite in the beauty of life.
