When sitting with Elisa, I feel I am sitting with a great teacher. The insight that she shares echoes to a place deep within.
Here is a glimpse of her response when asked…
Has surfing impacted you as an individual? If so, how? Has it made you a “better person”?
“It started as a cog, an element of my life that I chose to incorporate. Over the years it has made its way to the center, the fountain of life. It’s where I get energy, which feeds the other aspects of my living.” She explains, “it helps me consciously make decisions. From moving to the coast, to how I eat. From physical activity to enhance my performance in the water, to where I vacation.” Elisa sees surfing and the ocean as inspiration, motivation, and vitality.
“Then there’s the adventure part of it. You never know where it’s going to take you, or who you might meet along the way.” She elaborates, “I’ve met so many amazing people while surfing here and other places in the world. Surfing creates an automatic bond between people. It breaks down walls. It overcomes language barriers. It unites people.” Elisa notes that surfing has given her a new perspective, “when you start to look at the world through surfing-eyes, you realize it is just one ocean that wraps around the entire world.”
A powerful quote floods from her lips as we conclude our conversation, “you are not a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in one drop” (Rumi). We are left with subtle smiles and extended gratitude for the ocean and the art of surfing. She lights up as she explains that surfing and the ocean are elements in which many people are able to continue as part of a healthy aging process due to its “life giving, inspiring, fun energy.”
Elisa currently lives on the eastern shore of Maryland and is a phenomenal acupuncturist at Healing By Nature. If you’re looking to enhance your well-being, treat something specific, or just relax contact her via email@example.com
