Stoke- a common thread.
Last week I sat in a room for hours on end with seventy people, from fifteen countries, speaking various languages. During this time, it would have been easy to see the differences. The different skin colors. The different facial attributes. The different accents. The different clothing styles. The different gestures. The different backgrounds. The list goes on and on. But the variations seemed nonexistent compared to the unity that radiated through smiles, hugs, and looking into each others eyes. A deep thread wove through all of us, which illuminated the foundation of life itself and disintegrated all differences.
This morning I was struck by a similar situation as I sat in a circle of friends on the beach. Various ages, ethnicities, and upbringings completed this group. Again, differences could have been at the forefront. However, we began talking about “stoke,” a common word used amongst the surf culture. Through speaking of this word, only the commonalties of human existence were podiumed. Many related this sensation of “stoke” to happiness, elevated energy, joy, bliss, and cheerful excitement. We all agreed- that sharing “stoke” with everyone, literally everyone, is the way to keep the profoundness of stoke alive, while enhancing and connecting all lives.
Feelings and emotions, such as stoke, have no requirements, are free of judgements, and have no limitations. They radiate from the core of one being to another, connecting us all to one common thread.
We are more alike than we are different. So share your stoke daily, and perhaps we can change the world.
