The waves that are the deepest project the least into plain sight. Only those who understand the ways of the ocean know that- depth depicts the wave’s surface size. What people miss is, the surface wave is the last phase of an insurmountable journey.
How ignorant we can be, not to see below the surface. Not to express appreciation for how the wave developed into what it is. For if it had not journeyed, it would not be.
The best part- surfers pray for “ground” swells, not wind (aka surface) swells. They yearn for a deeper connection- the deeper, stronger, more meaningful swell. Why? Because ground swells my friend, produce the most unique waves. Waves of power, waves that last, waves that are connected with more of the ocean; therefore, allowing the surfer to participate in the most exquisite rides.
It is that deeper type of swell that gives more to the surface, but only because it has come to know, has collected energy from, and has fully surrendered to its’ depths…
