I lay back on my board today, face-up to catch a different view. Cradled between buoyancy and gravity, between the great blue of Earth and the expansive blue sky. I drift for a bit. With no points of reference to distract me I can feel every movement of the ocean, as if it is within me.
An overwhelming sensation stirs inside of me. Tears swell in my eyes, slip out the corner creases, and roll into the ocean as if returning home. Home to a place that is all welcoming, that is all accepting, and all loving- exactly the same as the profound basin of the soul. You know, that place inside each of us, yes each of us, whose depths root deeper than the ocean and expand far beyond the limits of the sky. It’s not just in a few of us, it’s in each and every one of us, reminding us of how magnificent we are. Reminding us that we are more than this body, more than this mind, more than this dimension we find ourselves experiencing life in.
As I lay in the arms of the salty-water, I connect with the ocean within. It beams like a golden light, it prevails through all of our days, and just like the ocean- it never goes away. It is there to catch our tears, to smile back at us, to laugh with us, to weep with us, and to shine with us. During the ups and downs, it loves us through and through, just like the ocean does.
We can leave this place and we can stray from the shoreline, yet the ocean outside of us and within us, never leaves us.
